How affiliate marketing works in Uganda – 2025’s Guide and beyond

If you have ever bought a secondhand electronic that only worked for a day or two, you no doubt know the headache of buying used electronics in Uganda.
In this article, you will discover smart tips others use to get genuine, preowned electronics in Uganda without getting scammed. Next time you eye that crash deal of yours, you’ll be smart enough to be hooked on anything counterfeit.
First, let’s analyze why you should care about buying second-hand electronics in Uganda; I guarantee you’ll love the reasoning behind getting preowned goods rather than brand-new ones.
The first reason is price—new electronics of genuine brands come with a hefty price tag that could be out of your budget. Take, for example, a new LG 234-liter fridge at Appliance World; it comes with a 5-year warranty, but what about the price?
A whopping Ugx 1,800,000, which could be way out of your league.
Yet, if you browse local classifieds, you could find a used one that still works well, relatively new but at half price or less.
There are many counterfeits, even among big brands—These days, it’s a real challenge to determine whether an electronic is genuine or counterfeit. Why? Many electronics dealers now communicate directly with private labeling suppliers in China.
That means, a store owner simply sends details of a brand and what should be labeled on their products. Even when they aren’t affiliated with the brand, their counterparts in China simply do exactly as requested.
Worse yet, whether the electronic is genuine or counterfeit, greedy vendors will charge you the same price.
So under such circumstances, a wiser move would be going secondhand because it’s cheaper and what’s good is that the item has already worked for a while thus proving its effectiveness.
Public opinion means everything – With a predominantly young population, most Ugandans wouldn’t care whether what you have is secondhand or not; all they care about is the prestige that comes with the brand.
What matters to them is does it work? If it does thank God, we have it! So, why go for brand-new at a price when you can have the same accolade for less?

Price : 650,000

ust like any other venture that involves money, buying used electronics isn’t always smooth without risks; all the activities in the buying of anything preowned are always left up to the buyer’s gut and the mutual consent between the buyer and seller.
Partly, that’s a good thing but also a brood for trouble.
Any ignorance during the transaction can lead to misery and losses. To skip the troubles, here’s a checklist of things you should keep in mind when buying used electronics in Uganda (you can thank me later!)
Hidden defects – Believe it or not, sellers will never tell you everything about the electronics they are selling. All they want to see done is closing the deal; the buyer’s interest only comes second to theirs. So, be wary ( T’osumagira! Kasente kajjagenda!)
Fake products – Counterfeits are everywhere, especially in the phones and accessories space. One spot to be extremely vigilant is Mutasa Kafeero; most of those people you see loitering around, are either idlers or middlemen who are simply interested in getting their cut in the sale.
Stolen items – Buying stolen goods even without your knowledge will get you in trouble; and the love crash deals on used items is usually the problem. So don’t be just taken by the super-low prices. As long as you know nothing about the seller, be wary.
There are no warranties on used items – Before you make any purchase on anything that has been preowned, consider the risks. Sellers of used items are usually unwilling to offer any form of guarantee or warranty on what they are selling. So, think twice before reaching out for your wallet.
Buy from trusted sellers.
Avoid buying from random people selling stuff for example hawkers in taxi parks and bus terminals especially if the amount involved is beyond what you can lose. Instead, go for:
Personally inspect the item before paying for it
However convincing the seller is, don’t risk sending the funds before seeing the item personally. Here are a few things you could check;
A simple hack to save you when buying used laptops or desktops is pressing the “Win + R” buttons on the keyboard; within the dialog that appears, type in “msinfo32” and then hit OK;
Doing that will display the computer’s system details, the state of its hardware, installed codecs, drivers, etc. This of course works for computers running on Windows-based operating systems. But will reveal a lot of stuff that the seller’s hiding
Go for products with a warranty
Granted, most used electronics usually don’t have any return or warranty attached to them but if you’re buying from a store that sells refurbished electronics, don’t hesitate to ask for it. And if online for example on Jumia, ensure to go only for items that offer a return warranty period.
Don’t hesitate to use your Jumia returns/replacement window in case you see something off. That window is always 7 working days.
Compare prices before purchasing.
Compare prices before purchasing.
If an offer sounds too good to be true, it most likely is; so check multiple stores or sources to get that feel for the actual market price. Trusting your gut could save you a lot of headaches and losses.
Meet in a safe, public place.
Your safety and security are more important than the purchase. So, avoid late time appointments and secluded areas. Here are some of the best places to meet;
Ask for proof of ownership
If a seller is genuine, they won’t hesitate to come along with the original receipt or box for the purchase or something to prove that they legally own the item. If there’s no proof, walk away.
Don’t pull yourself into troubles that you won’t be able to get yourself out of especially if you don’t know anything about the seller.
Trust your guts
Exercise extreme caution when dealing with anyone online. There are many people with wrong motives who can pause as genuine sellers when they are actually wrongdoers.
So don’t just trust any stranger when online. If anything sounds off, it probably is. Instead do the following;
So, that’s it!
With this checklist handy, buying used electronics in Uganda can be fun and more rewarding. Just follow those steps and you won’t get into any headaches and losses.
The key is being patient, carrying out your research, being vigilant, and never ignoring your inner prodding.
